Peer Support Specialist

Do you want to be a part of a new bi cultural Alcohol and Drug Treatment service delivered in partnership with Serco within the Auckland South Corrections facility?

We are now currently seeking a full-time permanent Peer Support Specialist to join our team in delivering treatment for 6 to 12 months within a therapeutic community-based environment for up to 60 men.

Your role will support the facilitation of groups, supporting clients in achieving treatment goals and working closely with clinical colleagues to ensure the best possible outcomes for our clients.

Do you have:

  • Personal lived experience, a story of recovery from addictions and the ability to be a positive role model to others (essential)
  • A willingness to embrace a bi cultural treatment approach within a therapeutic community environment.
  • A good understanding of tikanga Māori and its importance within this setting
  • Assertive communication and active listening skills
  • A willingness to hang in there when the going gets tough
  • The ability to work in an ethical framework with strong boundaries
  • Completed peer support training of some description and/or experience working in a peer position
  • Excellent computer skills, particularly email, data entry and word processing
  • An understanding of working in a Corrections environment

In return we offer:

  • A salary between $60,174 and $67,828 depending on experience.
  • A $2000 per annum location allowance on top of salary
