Speed Freaks Charitable Trust was established in 2021 supporting recovery from addiction and mental distress through the vehicle of running and walking.

Our programme is delivered by local volunteer coaches supported by peers and staff, in residential, day and community settings.

The Speed Freaks kaupapa grows health and well-being, community connection, inclusion, participation and paying it forward.

Peer support

We have up to 20 hours and are able to consider 10 hours min.

The peer role supports individuals in treatment and community to join our programme. You will be based at Richmond Cottage with on site and off site support of activities.

The development of the Speed Freaks Charity is driven by our participants, coaches and community, as a young charity this requires a flexible and considered approach to issues and opportunities as they arise.

You will need;

  • Passion, positivity and a solution focused approach.
  • Preferably Level 4 National Certificate of Health & Wellbeing or higher qualification.
  • Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to balance multiple responsibilities and prioritise tasks effectively
  • Confident use of IT for documentation, reporting and communication. Including smart phone apps.
  • Demonstrate commitment to ongoing personal and professional growth.
  • Excellent boundaries.
  • Hold a full NZ Drivers License
  • Access to vehicle & ability to use for work travel.
  • 20 hours with Thursday Friday plus Saturday on rota.

Able to run 5 km and walk 10km to support to support our kaupapa. ( slow conversational pace)

Duties will include;

  • Establish rapport with tangata whai ora, whanau, and local networks.
  • Provide additional support to weekly run/ walking groups in all settings.
  • Attend team meetings and hui, bring creative responses to hurdles and work together in support of our kaupapa.
  • Working with peer support team in delivery of presentations, information stands and growing an understanding of Speed Freaks impact and outcomes.
  • Attend 1;1 support and appointments with Speed Freaks whai ora.
