The first of four Regional KPI Programme Forums kicked off on 20 March in Matakana. Opened by Health NZ | Te Whatu Ora interim director of data and analytics Stuart Bloomfield, the event brought together people working in mental health and addiction services from across the wider Auckland and Northland regions for a day of learning, knowledge sharing, and collaboration.
Attendees, including clinicians, NGO and health sector leaders, whānau advisors and members of the lived experience workforce, gathered to explore how they can support continuous quality improvement and drive equity of health outcomes for tāngata whai ora, whānau, and communities.
Collection of PRIMHD data and a dedication to improving the quality of this data was a key focus in the sector improvement stories. Including the voice of lived experience and whānau in system design and delivery was another important topic discussed.
There was a shared commitment to driving action to create meaningful and lasting improvements in the mental health and addiction sector. The afternoon session involved interactive benchmarking workshops using the KPI Programme dashboards: wait times, seclusion, 28-day readmission and 7-day follow up, and whānau engagement.
This event marked the beginning of four regional benchmarking forums to be delivered across the motu in 2025. It was an inspiring day, filled with thoughtful discussions and new insights on improving mental health services at the regional level.
The next three regional forum events are:
- 10 April: Te Manawa Taki | Midland (Rotorua)
- 1 May: Te Ikaroa | Central (Palmerston North)
- 15 May: Te Waipounamu | Southern (Christchurch)
All sector stories from regional benchmarking forums will be recorded and made available to view on the KPI Programme website by the end of May. Please contact the KPI Programme team at info@mhakpi.health.nz if you have any questions about this event or have a quality improvement story you would like to share at one of our remaining regional forums.
