MHFA Aotearoa Workplace Recognition Programme
Our Workplace Recognition Programme (WRP) recognises and celebrates organisations for their commitment to embedding Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) Aotearoa in their workplace culture.
With three tiers of recognition, there are options for every organisation.
Why get involved?
Whether you are a large organisation, or a smaller one, investing in the mental health and wellbeing of your people, and giving them the skills to recognise and respond to signs of mental health challenges or distress in a colleague, is worthwhile.
The Workplace Recognition Programme helps organisations foster an environment where staff feel safe, encouraged and supported to talk openly about their mental health with anyone at any time.
It also supports organisations to establish and maintain an internal mental health and wellbeing framework tailored to their needs.

The impact of poor mental health in the workplace
$1.85 billion lost in 2020 due to stress-related work absences
Average return per $1 spent on mental wellbeing programmes was $4.20
7.3 million working days lost in 2020 due to stress-related work absences
Workplace cultures that value employee wellbeing are linked to having the strongest productivity
According to the World Health Organisation, a supportive work environment fosters people’s positive mental health, while poor working conditions can harm their mental wellbeing.
Poor mental health can lead to increased levels of absenteeism at work, affecting productivity and team culture.
The World Health Organisation recommends mental health literacy training and interventions to improve and protect mental health at work.
Sign up for our Workplace Recognition Programme (WRP) and demonstrate your commitment to mental health to current and future staff, and your community. The more Mental Health First Aiders there are in your workplace, the stronger your people and organisational culture will be.
What are the costs?
A fee applies to participate in the MHFA Aotearoa Workplace Recognition Programme. This varies according to the size and nature of your workplace, and the recognition level (Bronze, Silver or Gold). Please refer to the Workplace Recognition Programme Costing Sheet for more information. Your WRP status is valid for two years.
What are the benefits?
When you join the MHFA Aotearoa Workplace Recognition Programme, you will receive a certificate of recognition to celebrate your mahi, either Bronze, Silver or Gold. You can display this in your office or workplace as a sign of your commitment to Mental Health First Aid.
This is a powerful symbol to current and future employees, as well as to customers and stakeholders, of your dedication to mental health in the workplace, supporting employee wellbeing, retention and recruitment.
We also encourage and support you to celebrate your WRP status using a special email signature, and to share your commitment to MHFA on your website and social media channels.
What other support will we receive?
As a skilled workplace, we will celebrate your commitment to MHFA Aotearoa and share your organisation’s story on our channels (including web and social media). In addition, you will receive ongoing support from MHFA Aotearoa with access to support and advice from our experienced team to prepare you for the next tier of accreditation. All MHFA instructors are invited to attend MHFA Community of Practice webinars and will receive MHFA instructor newsletters.
