Least restrictive practice evidence update Sep 2019

District Health Boards have collectively and substantially reduced the proportion of people being secluded in mental health and addiction inpatient units in the past 10 years. The implementation of Six Core Strategies© has been a key part of this shift towards least restrictive practices in New Zealand.

This latest evidence update takes a closer look at the strategies that local services have found helpful, as well as areas for improvement. Current strengths and priorities in relation to Six Core Strategies© include leadership towards organisational change, sensory modulation, use of data to inform practice, and workforce development.
