  • Name:

    Aaron O'Connell

  • Position:

    HIP master trainer

Aaron O’Connell is a New Zealand-trained clinical psychologist with over 25 years’ experience in senior clinical and leadership roles across New Zealand and the UK. Aaron’s career has centred on promoting innovative changes in service delivery and implementing effective psychological therapies. He was an early adopter of psychological therapy for psychosis and has spent recent years working outside the ‘therapy office’ in assertive outreach and leadership roles. In 2018 he made a sudden pivot from secondary mental health services to primary care, to join the new Primary Care Behavioural Health initiative, and led the small Auckland pilot of health improvement practitioners (HIP). He is a Master HIP trainer and divides his time between training new HIPs and running a small private practice in central Auckland. He is fully committed to rolling out this new way of improving the wellbeing of our communities, and promoting brief psychological change strategies.
