The More than numbers project has gathered information about the DHB and NGO adult mental health and addiction workforce delivering AOD, forensic mental health, and mental health services to people aged 18 and older (adults).

This report presents a summary of the combined DHB and NGO workforce. It estimates the size, composition and turnover and compares findings to the previous More than numbers organisation workforce survey.

Key findings are:

  • The adult mental health and addiction workforce is estimated to be 10,832 FTE positions (employed and vacant), and has grown by around 9 per cent since 2014.
  • DHB and NGO services are being delivered to more people.
  • The workforce composition remains very similar to the 2014 workforce.
  • Workforce turnover is low (15 per cent). NGO turnover (23 per cent) was high compared to DHB turnover (12 per cent).
