2023 Health New Zealand - Te Whatu Ora workforce estimates

This report estimates the 2023 FTE workforce size, vacancies, composition, and turnover in Health New Zealand - Te Whatu Ora adult mental health and addiction services. Te Pou will update this information annually from 2024.

The workforce grew by nearly 4 percent during the year to 31 March 2023. Key findings are:

• the workforce totals 7,566 FTE positions employed and vacant
• vacancy rates remain high at 11 percent
• allied health and support workers have the strongest growth over the year
• resignation rates for psychiatrists are greater than recruitment rates.
