Engagement: a summary of the evidence

A literature scan was undertaken to inform resource development for the Let’s get real essential level of the Real Skill: Working with people experiencing mental health and addiction needs. The focus was on engagement skills. This information was collected in 2021 and subsequently used for the development of the ‘Tātou tatou: being with people and whānau’ suite of resources. The purpose of this resource is to provide educators and researchers with a summary of key themes and references that can be used to source full articles.

This annotated literature review is made up of two parts. The first part provides a summary of the literature presented in sub-sections. The second part summarises the articles included in the review with a reference, title, and a short description. Information is summarised under the following sub-sections.

  1. Working with Māori.
  2. Working with Pasifika.
  3. General engagement.
  4. Working with young people.
  5. Working with refugees and migrants.
  6. Working with Rainbow communities.
