Supervision for the consumer, peer support and lived experience workforce

Good professional supervision is important for the CPSLE workforce and has many benefits. The ultimate goal of supervision is to improve services for people accessing them. The CPSLE workforce has a vital part to play in effectively supporting people and whānau accessing services.

Professional supervision is a different process to line management. Regular and formal professional supervision, provided separately to line management, helps to support worker wellbeing, reflective practice, self-awareness, and the development of enhanced knowledge and skills

This resource summarises information about supervision relevant to the CPSLE workforce. Information on mentoring and coaching is also included where available. It is based on a literature review undertaken in January 2022. The information represents the first steps towards the development of a practical supervision guide for the workforce: Action 3.4 of the Consumer, Peer Support and Lived Experience Workforce Development Action Plan.
