Te Whatu Ora adult mental health and addiction workforce estimates 2025

This report summarises estimates for the Health New Zealand Te Whatu Ora (Te Whatu Ora) adult mental health and addiction services workforce on 31 March 2025. It includes estimates for full-time equivalent (FTE) positions employed and vacant, vacancy rates, and past year recruitment and resignation rates. Results are compared with information for March 2024.

Te Pou estimates the 2025 Te Whatu Ora adult mental health and addiction workforce totals 7,897 FTE positions (employed and vacant) with a vacancy rate of nearly 8 percent. This compares with 7,910 FTE positions in March 2024 and a previous vacancy rate of 10 percent.
