Variation in DHB seclusion rates

This evidence-informed report investigates what factors might be influencing the variation in seclusion rates between DHB mental health services using PRIMHD data. Results indicated after adjusting for the sociodemographic and clinical characteristics of people accessing services, the variation between DHB seclusion rates remained unchanged. Findings suggest that the variation is due to differences in clinical practice which has implications for service delivery.

Based on the Six Core Strategies© framework, this report outlines recommendations to support the ongoing implementation of a multi-level strategic approach to reducing the use of seclusion.
