PRIMHD (pronounced ‘primed’) is the Ministry of Health’s national mental health and addiction information collection of activity and outcomes data. It stands for ‘Programme for the Integration of Mental Health Data’.
The data is collected from district health boards (DHBs) and non-government organisations (NGOs) for the Ministry of Health.
PRIMHD data is used to report on what services are being provided, who is providing the services, and what outcomes are being achieved for tāngata whai ora across New Zealand’s mental health sector.
This information enables better quality service planning and decision making by mental health and addiction service providers at local, regional and national levels.
Te Pou uses PRIMHD information to provide quarterly national HoNOS summary reports to services providers.
PRIMHD data is used to report on what services are being provided and by whom. The data is also used to look at the outcomes being achieved for service users. PRIMHD data is used by a number of programmes and outcome measures.
The PRIMHD National Stakeholders Group leads outcomes collection in DHB services, delivering workshops and presentations, organising and planning IT system development, and coordinating training and resources for staff. Many of the group implement PRIMHD.
This community of practice group exists to support each other with all things PRIMHD, including use of activity codes and outcome data. The group also share issues and good practice surrounding data in a wider sense, for the purpose of improving services for the people that use those services.
