Support worker evaluation report

As part of the integrated primary mental health and addiction (IPMHA) programme, Te Pou developed the ‘Skills for integration’ for working in primary and community health settings. In developing the ‘Skills for integration’ Te Pou sought feedback from people working in NGOs, Te Whatu Ora services and primary care to identify the knowledge and skills needed to work effectively in an integrated approach. Following the consultation process, supplementary feedback from the Navigate NGO network drew attention to the needs of support workers who have mostly worked in mental health and addiction who are new to working closely with primary care. Developing an e-learning was proposed as the solution. This was developed and launched in March 2022.

Learning objectives

• Support workers understand primary health roles and how these can work in an integrated way.\
• Support workers complete tasks in an integrated way within a primary health team.

An evaluation was built into the e-learning. The purpose was to assess how well the module meets the specified learning objectives; and assess the success of the e-learning module in developing the support workers’ knowledge, skills, and confidence.
